How to get a customer service job you can do from home
Chat, email and phone support from home: what each involves, how it differs from a call center, what clients check, and where to look on day shift.
For a lot of Filipinos, customer service means a call center seat and a US account at 2am. Doing it from home can look different. The clients are often smaller, there's more writing, and with a client in Asia, the hours can be daytime.
Here's what the work involves, what changes when you leave the floor, and where to look.
Chat, email or phone: which support job fits you?
The core of the job is the same in every channel. O*NET, the US Department of Labor's job database, lists the main tasks of a customer service representative:
- Give customers information, take orders, cancel accounts and get the details of complaints.
- Keep a record of each conversation, including what you did about it.
- Fix service or billing problems, for example with a refund, an exchange or a corrected bill.
- Pass problems you can't solve to the right team.
The channel changes how you talk to people. Chat support usually means typing short answers, often to more than one customer at a time. Email support gives you more time per reply, and your writing is the whole job. Phone support is talking, and you'll handle more upset people live.
Pick the channel that matches what you're good at. If your written English is strong and you type fast, start with chat or email. If you're calm on the phone and don't mind hearing no, phone work fits, and appointment setting is a close cousin of it.
Whichever you choose, clients check the same few things. They want clear writing, patience and the tools. O*NET lists CRM software, Microsoft Excel, Google Drive and Slack among the tools customer service reps use. Put two or three sample replies in your application: one to an angry customer, one to a confused customer and one that says no politely.
What changes when you leave the call center floor
At home, nobody fixes your setup for you. There's no IT desk and no team lead at the next seat, so a dead headset or a brownout is yours to solve. Before you apply, you need a working computer, internet you've tested and a backup plan for power. Our work from home setup guide (/blog/work-from-home-setup-philippines) covers each one.
Small clients often want one person to cover more than support. A small business may want you to answer customers and also handle admin. On DayShift, admin listings include tasks like following up with customers and suppliers by email, phone or WhatsApp. On 6 October 2026, 6 of the 30 open listings mentioned customer service experience or customer-facing work.
And your hours follow your client. A US account means nights. A client in Singapore or Malaysia is on Manila's clock, so you work when they do.
Where to find support work on day shift
DayShift has no customer service listings open right now. Two kinds of role on the board use the same skills:
- Admin assistant roles ask for admin, VA or customer service experience. You'd handle the inbox, follow-ups and customer records. See /jobs/admin-assistant.
- Appointment setting roles are phone work: calling leads, answering questions and booking meetings for the client's sales team. One listing asks for "customer service experience and confidence speaking with prospects by phone". See /jobs/telemarketing.
Each DayShift listing shows its pay in SGD or MYR, per hour or per month, and there's no fee to apply. Browse them all at /jobs.

Questions
Can I get a customer service job from home with no experience?
Some roles take beginners, but most ask for some customer-facing experience. Retail, a call center or helping customers in a family business all count, so name them. Sample replies help too.
What's the difference between chat support and a call center job?
Chat support is written, and you may handle more than one customer at a time. A call center job is mostly phone calls, on whatever hours the account needs, which for a US account means nights.
Does DayShift have customer service jobs?
Not as a separate listing today. Admin roles include customer follow-ups, and appointment setting roles are phone work with customers. Both are at /jobs.
What equipment do I need for customer service from home?
A computer, internet you've tested at your working hours, a headset with a microphone and a quiet room. Plan for brownouts too, because your client won't see the outage, only that you're gone.
